How to choose a halogen auxiliary lamp?
Driving or fog?
A driving (long-range) lamp gives a narrow, long beam and supplements the vehicle's main beam — it is switched on together with it. A fog lamp has a wide, low beam with a sharp upper cut-off that reflects less off fog and precipitation. When fitting lamps to a vehicle used on public roads, regulations on the number, height and switching of lights apply.
Voltage and bulb
- 12 V or 24 V: in H3 models the voltage depends on the bulb — for 24 V systems (trucks, tractors) fit a 24 V bulb.
- Bulb included: some models (e.g. the HM4 series) come with a bulb, for others it is bought separately — this is stated in the product description.
- 12 V-only or 24 V-only versions: this applies e.g. to the HOS2 LED-ring lamps and RAJD2 rally lamps.
Mounting and protection
Most lamps are mounted with a single bolt in the bracket, standing (on the bumper or frame) or hanging. For off-road and agricultural work choose a model with a protective grille, or buy a grille or full cover from the accessories. IP66 means full protection against dust and powerful water jets.
