Reversing or fog lamp — how to choose?
Function and light colour
- Reversing light: white, comes on with reverse gear and lights the area behind the vehicle during manoeuvres.
- Rear fog light: red, stronger than the position light; used only in poor visibility, e.g. in fog.
LED or bulb?
LED lamps in this category run on 12/24 V, and some are rated IP68. Bulb lamps are simpler and cheaper to buy — when a bulb blows only the bulb is replaced, and the voltage depends on the bulb chosen. Details are in the LED and bulb subcategories.
Single-function, combination or work lamp?
If space on the vehicle is tight, a combination lamp gives reverse and fog in one housing. A work lamp with reversing function lights a larger area behind the machine — however, the work function is not intended for driving on public roads.
Mounting
Surface lamps are bolted to a flat surface, recessed lamps are set into a hole in the body, and hanging lamps are fixed on an M8 bolt or stud under the frame or bumper.
